Collection: Safety Valves / Pressure Relief Valves

Pressure relief valves and safety valves are critical protective components used in air compressor systems to prevent over-pressurisation and equipment damage.

A pressure relief valve (PRV) is designed to open gradually when system pressure exceeds a preset limit, allowing excess air to escape and bringing the pressure back to a safe operating range. It typically reseats automatically once the pressure drops below the set point. PRVs are commonly used to protect receivers, piping, and downstream equipment from pressure fluctuations.

A safety valve, while similar in purpose, is designed for rapid, full opening (“pop action”) when pressure reaches a critical threshold. This quick response ensures immediate discharge of compressed air in emergency overpressure situations. Safety valves are often installed directly on the air receiver tank to protect against catastrophic failure.

In air compressor systems, both devices act as fail-safe mechanisms, helping ensure operational safety, regulatory compliance, and protection of personnel and equipment.
